An integrated project

Because of the interprovincial nature of this project, the Société de transport de l’Outaouais is working closely with its partners: the ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD), the National Capital Commission, Ville de Gatineau and the City of Ottawa.

The project partners

For this project, the Société de transport de l’Outaouais is working closely with its partners: the ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD), the National Capital Commission, Ville de Gatineau and the City of Ottawa. Because of its interprovincial nature, this project at the heart of the nation’s capital calls for integrated planning of mobility and land use on the Quebec and Ontario sides of the Ottawa River.

Funding

On June 27, 2024, Canada and Quebec announced a $163.5 M joint investment for the planning stage of the Gatineau-Ottawa tram project.

The amounts granted by the Government of Quebec, i.e. $98.1 M, and the Government of Canada, i.e. $65.4 M, will be used to conduct upcoming studies along the 22 kilometer circuit on the Quebec side.

On December 16, 2024, the Government of Canada announced a $31.6 M investment over three years, starting in 2025–26, to conduct feasibility studies for the portion outside Quebec.
