The dedicated public transit system project

Why a tram?

In order to address the demographic growth and a system that no longer meets demand, the region needs an effective public transit system that meets residents’ needs for the next 30 to 50 years.

Main stages

An infrastructure project of this magnitude involves several stages. Ten or so years is the rule of thumb for getting through them all. Here are the key milestones.

Environmental assessments

Environmental assessments guide the governments in their decisions regarding major projects and give the public and communities the opportunity to have their views heard. They give projects social and environmental acceptability beyond their economic and technical feasibility.

Partners and funding

Because of the interprovincial nature of this project, the Société de transport de l’Outaouais is working closely with its partners: the ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable (MTMD), the National Capital Commission, Ville de Gatineau and the City of Ottawa.
